About Me
I specialize in Modern China, Modern Africa, and Digital Humanities, with research interests spanning state power, development, and digital/computational methods. My teaching interests include East Asia, modern Africa, world history, and digital history. My dissertation focuses on Republican China, comparing warlordism and civil war during this period with similar dynamics found in modern and contemporary Africa, particularly in examining the relationship between militarized local elites and the state. I am also deeply engaged in digital history projects, especially in applying NLP techniques to historical research.
